Paper Description
This paper, usually taken after three years of study in the BMS, facilitates immersion experience in a business, industry or other organisation. Students spend 4-13 weeks immersed full time during normal business working hours in a host organisation they find for themselves. Host organisations may be in New Zealand or overseas. Many students taking this course are paid (wages) for their time in their host organisation, but this is not mandatory, and is up to each student to negotiate with prospective host organisations about wages or other form of payment that might be part of the arrangements they make.
Students involved in the Industry Experience paper are expected to undertake the projects and work assigned by their host organisation supervisor during business hours, and do the academic components of this course outside business hours. The learning hours for the academic components of the course (research topics, weekly contributions, report, self-evaluation) are in addition to the immersion hours spent with the host organisation.
The two major assessments are:
1) Students are required to participate each and every week during the course in an electronic discussion with other students in the class, and
2) Students are required to complete a reflective report near the end of the course on their experiences and achievements in the host organisation, and their learning and skills built through their self-selected research topics.
A 30 minute Panopto video introducing the paper can be found here
